Meet The Animals!

  • Ducky (Front)

Ducky is the shyest of our three girls; she has an almost solid orange bill and some minor damage to her webbing. She doesn’t enjoy human contact nearly as much as the others. She has been the most solid duck, healthwise, and enjoys spending time with the boys in the run. She wears brown bands on her legs for identification.

  • Lucky

Named Lucky, for obvious reasons (most importantly my husband’s good mood and generosity in allowing me to acquire more ducklings after I’d surprised him weeks before with the three girls). He is a White Layer drake, and looks a lot like the Aflac duck. He does have some issues from the Wry Neck as it wasn’t identified in time to prevent all the defects from the illness. Most notably, he has a permanent tilt to his head and often gets overwhelmed by things (resulting in him screaming and running in circles). He enjoys chasing the dog and loves baths. Lucky is the namesake of our little farm, because even though you are different, it doesn’t mean you have less value in this world; you are always worth the time and effort to care for yourself. Lucky is identified by orange bands on his legs

  • Blue

Blue is named after the beloved velociraptor from the Jurassic World Series. He is a very handsome Saxony drake. He is our largest boy, and a generally laidback duck. He doesn’t enjoy human contact, but he accepts it more than Ducky. We often joke he is Stanley from The Office, because he generally rolls with the punches, but when he gets upset, he lets the world know. He was previously identified by lavender/slate leg bands; but as he grew out of them, we chose not replace them.

  • Adele

Adele is a grey and white Domestic Shorthair that was adopted by my husband from the local humane society. She was found wandering the streets in Ocean Shores, WA; a presumed kitten mill breeder cat. She was incredibly ill and had recently had a litter. She ended up heading to our local humane society through a shelter “swap” in hopes she would end up in a better situation. Adele ended up at the local PetSmart, where my husband was shopping. It was love at first sight. They have a complicated (albeit a somewhat abusive) relationship; as he adores her but she enjoys beating him up.

Adele is a spicy kitty with a lot of personality. She can be loving when she wants, but has no issue complaining when something isn’t how she likes it. Adele previously was an accomplished hunter; bringing home rabbits larger than her, and even once taking on a doe. She now lives a “retired” lifestyle, enjoying her days sunning on the table and cuddling on the couch. She only goes outside supervised and on a long line. Adele enjoys antagonizing Lily, running around like a ninja for no reason, and she loves snacks.

  • K-9 Rajaw Fire Lily

Rajaw Fire Lily (more commonly known as Lily) is an AKC/UKC dual-registered red golden retriever. She is a human remains detection dog in training, and we are involved in a variety of dog sports as well. She comes from a little breeder in New York state, near a ski resort. Lily is the arguably the heart of our little family. She is a goofy, fun loving, high drive, hard hitting dog.

Lily has accomplished much in her seven and a half years; including all of her Canine Good Citizen titles, Farm Dog Certification, AKC Trick Dog through Advanced, and has taken Altered Best of Breed four times in the UKC Conformation show ring. We have been maintaining all of her odors for Human Remains Detection while I work through a catastrophic ankle injury, and plan to certify upon my recovery. We also are in the beginning stages of getting into FastCAT, lure coursing, and precision coursing. We plan on continuing our adventure in the UKC Conformation ring when time allows.

When she isn’t competing or working Lily enjoys chasing squirrels, playing with her Raccoon toy, and going on adventures with my husband. She is scared of cats; much to the amusement of Adele.

In memory of the animals we’ve loved and lost on our little homestead…

  • Petrie 7/2019-7/2022

Petrie was our little fighter. She had a speckled bill and was missing the majority of her left foot due to a traumatic injury that occurred on May 4, 2021. After months of extensive care, she was able to be returned to the flock in mid-October. A year prior, she survived a gizzard impaction (which has about a 5% survival rate). She coped well with the loss of her foot and was almost always the first to be fed; often shoving the boys out of her way. Petrie also loved treats; especially live insects. She wore a green band on her good leg for identification.

  • Littlefoot 7/2019-7/2022

Littlefoot was a fairly laid back girl with a primarily black bill. She had some minor damage to her webbing on both feet due to an unknown injury that occurred in 2021. I often referred to her as my “education duck” because once you were holding her, she was super chill and happy to be held while you talked to people with her. She wore blue bands on her legs for identification.
